MEET DEBORA ALLEN
Candidate for Contra Costa Board of Supervisors 2022
The impending retirement of Contra Costa Supervisor Karen Mitchoff creates an opportunity for new leadership in the county. I believe I am the right person to step up and do the job.
With untreated addictions and mental health problems, more people than ever find themselves homeless and living in the streets. The pandemic is turning endemic. Many jobs have been lost and small businesses struggle to survive. Problems like these require strong leadership.
I believe that now more than ever, the county needs a leader like me, someone experienced in regional policy battles and bold enough to fight to improve the quality of life for all residents. I am laser-focused on fiscal responsibility and bring straightforward common-sense ideas for improving government services and programs.
In 2016, after five years as a Trustee on the Contra Costa Employees Retirement Association, I was elected to the BART Board of Directors. I focused on rejecting failed public policy that was destroying the BART police department and jeopardizing the personal safety of BART riders and workers.
I led the charge for replacing and upgrading BART's 50-year-old station entrances, the primary cause of fare evasion that costs the agency $30 million a year in lost revenues.
I worked with the men and women in law enforcement in support of efforts to strengthen training and expand community policing while improving public safety in the system.
I have led the effort to bring more oversight to BART, working tirelessly to start and develop BART's first Office of the BART Inspector General, in spite of the resistance of some directors and management. I chaired BART's first Standing Audit Committee, led the agency through a CPA firm change, and forged a path for more oversight, transparency and accountability to taxpayers.
I am experienced in public safety, housing and regional transportation issues, and as supervisor would fight for improved mental health services and the efficient use of taxpayer resources.
With 25 years in executive-level management and financial positions in the private sector, my focus is on improving the quality of life for all residents of Contra Costa County.
I would be honored to have your support and vote on June 7th for Contra Costa County Supervisor.
